I had the opportunity to go to the naming ceremony of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. Having only ever been on a Disney Cruise I had no idea what to expect. We had an Ocean View Balcony room. I loved that. I do not think I will ever be able to cruise again without having an ocean view balcony room. We ate our breakfast each morning on our balcony. And we sat on the balcony each evening to enjoy the sunsets. The Icon was huge. We were on it for 3 days and we still did not get to see everything it had to offer. Just walking from one end of the ship to the other we did no less than 15,000 steps a day. On Embarkation Day they had a parade and balloon drops.
We ate at Windjammers which is a buffet for lunch. We were assigned the late dining option and each night we ate in the main dining room. If I had it to do again, I think I would have only eaten there 1 night and tried other places on the ship to eat.
The only Port we had was Coco Cay (Royals Private Island). I paid to the do the Adult only part of the island. That was nice. They had chairs that sat in the water and a swim up bar. It wasn’t very deep, and you could pretty much walk around the whole pool. In the back of the pool, you could stand and look out over the ocean. The pool music was loud, and it was a party area. When we visited the beach on the side of the adult only part of the island you didn’t hear the music, and it was really relaxing.
The Ship has quite a few shows. We saw the Broadway type show Wizard of Oz and as a person who absolutely loves Broadway and has seen a few shows, I can honestly say that this was possibly better than Broadway. There is also the Aqua show that is done in water. That was amazing. Some of their routines were in the air. Another attraction is almost like ballet/ice skating. That was also amazing. If you ever have the chance to be on the Icon, take time to go see all these amazing shows. They do have a comedy show as well but we didn’t get a chance to enjoy that as there just was not enough time.
One of the bars has dueling pianos that are super cool. They do take requests from the audience, and they play and sing songs. No matter what you drink it is something to see.
In addition, there is a large Waterpark on the ship. I did not get a chance to go on any of the water slides, but we did enjoy watching other guests use them.
The Icon has something for all ages young or old.
I definitely would cruise on the Icon. Just a recommendation you need a lot more than 3 days to enjoy everything the ship has to offer.
